FM: Belarus wants to keep open channels of communication with the EU despite sanctions

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Despite the sanctions Belarus wants to retain channels of communication with the EU, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Vladimir Makei said in an interview with FRANCE 24 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“We remain committed to dialogue. And even now, after six or seven packages of sanctions have been imposed against us, we are interested in keeping channels of communication with the EU open, since the EU is, first of all, a good trade and economic partner for us. We are neighbors,” the foreign minister said.

According to him, Belarus would like to diversify its economy and politics. “Yet, unfortunately, we do not see any readiness on the part of the European Union,” Vladimir Makei stated.
