MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – Permanent Representative of Belarus in Geneva Yuri Ambrazevich who is completing his service in this position met with Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, personal representative of the United Nations Secretary-General to the Conference on Disarmament Tatiana Valovaya, BelTA learned from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
“The parties reviewed the results of interaction between Belarus and the United Nations Office at Geneva in recent years. Tatiana Valovaya welcomed Belarus' contribution to regional and global security, including its efforts to revitalize the work of the Conference on Disarmament,” the ministry informed.
Yuri Ambrazevich and Tatiana Valovaya reaffirmed their commitment to counteracting the degradation of the international security system by strengthening multilateral institutions and negotiating platforms, initiating a comprehensive dialogue on global security issues.
They discussed new threats arising from advances in the technology of warfare, cyber attacks, uncontrolled developments in the field of artificial intelligence. They emphasized the destabilizing impact of modern media outlets on security issues.
Yuri Ambrazevich and Tatiana Valovaya considered a possibility to expand cooperation between Belarus and the United Nations Office at Geneva to further promote the sustainable development agenda in Belarus. Tatiana Valovaya welcomed Belarus' efforts in this area and spoke highly of the work of the national mechanism for the Sustainable Development Goals.
