CSTO working on mechanisms to resolve situation on Armenia-Azerbaijan border

MOSCOW, 13 September (BelTA) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) has been working on employing the organization's mechanisms for settling the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. The relevant commentary of the CSTO Secretariat in connection with the acute aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was provided to BelTA by CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov.

“In connection with Armenia's appeal to the CSTO Collective Security Council for assistance, the CSTO Secretariat together with the CSTO Joint Staff organized work to involve CSTO mechanisms to resolve the situation,” the commentary reads.

The CSTO Secretariat stated that on the night of 13 September military clashes with the use of heavy weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles took place on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. As a result, there are casualties and wounded.

“We consider the use of force unacceptable. Only political and diplomatic methods and agreements fixed in statements of leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia made on 9 November 2020, 11 January and 26 November 2021 should be used to settle conflicts,” the commentary reads.

The CSTO Secretariat also praised the Russian Federation's mediation efforts in the ceasefire on the line of contact since 9 am on 13 September.

“We express our deep condolences to the families of those killed and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded,” the CSTO Secretariat said in its commentary.
