MOSCOW, 30 November (BelTA) – The session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will be led by Russian President Vladimir Putin on 2 December, BelTA learned from CSTO spokeperson Vladimir Zainetdinov.
The Collective Security Council will be held as a video conference for the first time. The CSTO Crisis Response Center will be used for this purpose. Taking part in the event will be Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, acting President of Kyrgyzstan Talant Mamytov, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon. Attending the session will also be CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas.
“The members of the Collective Security Council will discuss the state of international security and issues of further improvement of CSTO efficiency, implementation of decisions of the session of the Collective Security Council and statutory bodies of the Collective Security Treaty Organization in the inter-sessional period, as well as development and strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation of CSTO member states. Chairman of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin is expected to provide information on the issue,” the spokesman said.
Participants are set to adopt a declaration of the Collective Security Council and a statement on the formation of a fair and sustainable world order. Plans are in place to sign the CSTO military cooperation plan for 2021-2025 and the CSTO anti-drug strategy for 2021-2025.
The Collective Security Council will consider the draft resolutions concerning the logistical and medical support of the Collective Forces and also additional measures to improve the system of training of personnel for the public authorities of the CSTO member states. The Council will also review the organization's budget for 2021.
Taking into account Tajikistan's presidency in the CSTO in 2020-2021, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon is expected to announce Tajikistan's priorities for the next intersessional period.
In total, the CSTO Collective Security Council agenda includes over 20 issues.
On 1 December, the CSTO Foreign Ministers Council and the CSTO Defense Ministers Council will hold video conferences. The councils are set to discuss issues submitted to the Collective Security Council session and also the development of cooperation of the CSTO with the United Nations, the CSTO participation in the UN peacekeeping activities, challenges and threats to military security in the collective security regions.
