CIS Ministerial Council to discuss security in CIS, its external borders

MOSCOW, 6 October (BelTA) - The CIS Ministerial Council, which will meet in Astana on 12 October, will discuss security in the CIS and on its external borders, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said at a briefing for the press in Moscow on 6 October, BelTA has learned.

"The foreign ministers of the CIS countries will exchange views on topical international and regional topics, prospects for the development of cooperation in the CIS and approve a plan for multi-level ministerial consultations in the CIS for 2023. Special consideration will be paid to issues of ensuring security in the CIS and on its external borders," Maria Zakharova said.

According to her, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will brief partners about the progress in the special military operation, the results of referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions and the entry of these territories into Russia.

"The CIS Ministerial Council is set to pass a number of decisions in culture, humanitarian affairs, law enforcement, human rights, in particular, a plan of action for the Year of the Russian Language as a Language of Interethnic Communication in the CIS in 2023 and a plan of priority activities in the field of humanitarian cooperation in the CIS for 2023-2024,” Maria Zakharova noted.

"Part of the documents approved following the meeting will be submitted to the CIS Heads of State Council that will convene for a meeting on 14 October and the CIS Heads of Government Council that will sit on 28 October," Maria Zakharova added.
