Belarusian PM lauds MFA, diplomatic missions for great results in 2025

MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and foreign missions have completed a significant amount of work across all areas in 2025, Belarusian Prime Minister Aleksandr Turchin said at a board meeting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BelTA has learned.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and our diplomatic missions abroad accomplished a great deal of work in 2025 across all areas: foreign policy, humanitarian affairs, foreign economic policy, and beyond. I wish to thank the leadership and entire team of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We must give credit where it’s due: it was a difficult year, but I believe we performed quite well. The export figures for goods and services in January of this year give us reason for cautious optimism. Our shared objective now is to sustain this momentum throughout the remainder of the year," Aleksandr Turchin stated.

He emphasized that exports continue to be the top priority. “However, as we are seeing now, the external landscape is highly volatile and exceedingly difficult to forecast. The geopolitical situation is shifting at a rapid pace,” the prime minister noted.

The prime minister stressed that Russia has been a strategic partner for Belarus.

“Even with our strong political ties, we are not making the full use of the cooperation potential with our other traditional partners within the CIS,” Aleksandr Turchin emphasized. “My official visits to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan have shown that there is no shortage of interesting projects in those countries. The Kyrgyz market also represents a vast opportunity that remains largely untapped.”

The prime minister stressed that Belarus’ engagement in integration bodies such as the Union State, the EAEU, the CIS, the SCO, and BRICS, must be pursued solely in the nation’s own interests.

He also urged to enhance ties with geographically remote countries. “The Social and Economic Development Program has set a goal to bring Belarusian exports to these nations to one-third of our total exports during this five-year period,” the prime minister said.
“Clearly, sanctions pressure from Europe remains, but we should not leave this market,” Aleksandr Turchin remarked.

He stated that Belarusian goods remain in high demand there. “Western businesses are hardly enthusiastic about the decisions made by European structures and are interested in working with us. So we must keep actively developing contacts, seize every opportunity, and do everything possible to not just maintain, but to strengthen our foothold in the European market,” the prime minister stressed. “Please continue to firmly communicate our principled stance to European partners that the sanctions approach leads nowhere and make the most of the alternative political ideas emerging within the European Union.”
