Belarus, Zimbabwe discuss parliamentary dialogue, bilateral projects

MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) - The Chairman of the Standing Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Sergei Aleinik, met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Zimbabwe to the Republic of Belarus Ignatius Graham Mudzimba in Minsk on 9 January, BelTA has learned.

The parties noted the high momentum in bilateral Belarus-Zimbabwe cooperation. The parties also reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening this cooperation, taking into account the significant political contacts that have developed through the friendly relations between the leaders of the two countries and the highest-level visits that have taken place.

Sergei Aleinik and Ignatius Graham Mudzimba discussed the prospects for developing inter-parliamentary dialogue and strengthening the role of the upper chambers of the legislative bodies of Belarus and Zimbabwe in enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation and implementing joint projects in the agricultural sector and also in education, healthcare, inter-regional cooperation and fostering collaboration between women's organizations of the two countries.

The parties agreed to continue joint work on the agenda through parliamentary and diplomatic channels.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Zimbabwe were established on 16 April 1992. Currently, Belarus and Zimbabwe maintain active political cooperation, hold similar positions on a number of international issues.
