MINSK, 16 December (BelTA) - The final agreements on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine should also take into account the interests of Belarus, Belarusian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yuri Ambrazevich said during a meeting of the Advisory Council for Belarusians Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, BelTA learned.
Yuri Ambrazevich emphasized Belarus' interest in the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine because the situation on its southern borders is very tense. “Against this background, the accusations against Belarus of aiding and abetting the aggression look absurd. Being a neighbor of Ukraine, Belarus is more interested than anyone else in the speedy peaceful resolution of this conflict,” he said. “No country wants armed hostilities on its borders.
That is why, the diplomat pointed out, Belarus has been taking peace initiatives to prevent the escalation of the conflict from the very beginning.
“This is why we said from the very beginning that we claim a seat at the table of peace negotiations on Ukraine when they begin. It is important for us to get guarantees of our own security. The final agreements should take into account, among other things, the interests of the Belarusian side,” the deputy minister said.
