Belarus supports China’s initiative on global AI cooperation

MINSK, 26 September (BelTA) – Belarus supports China’s initiative to set up a global organization for cooperation in artificial intelligence, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maxim Ryzhenkov said at the UN Security Council meeting in New York on 25 September, BelTA has learned.

In his speech, the minister also touched upon the issue of AI ethics. Maxim Ryzhenkov is convinced that AI development should be aimed at improving human life and preserving human dignity. “This means that AI technologies should complement human abilities, not completely replace them. This technology must not discriminate against humans,” the diplomat emphasized.

“The thoughtless AI use can have serious social consequences. Therefore, clear accountability mechanisms for AI-driven decisions must be established. Belarus considers China’s recent initiative to set up a global organization for cooperation in artificial intelligence, which it fully endorses, a step in the right direction,” Maxim Ryzhenkov said.

According to him, all countries are in great need of such a platform to develop and harmonize mechanisms for the common control of AI development processes.
