Belarus' Security Council chief: Threat to Belarus' security comes from the south

MINSK, 7 February (BelTA) – Belarus has to presume that the threat to its security comes from the south, State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Aleksandr Volfovich said on the air of the ONT TV channel, BelTA informs.

“Based on the analysis of the military, political, strategic situation, we are forced to presume that the threat to the country's security comes from the south as well, which was not the case before. First of all, it is a threat to the southern border of the Union State,” Aleksandr Volfovich said.

Following the decision of the presidents of Belarus and Russia, the first stage of checking the Union State rapid response forces will be running in Belarus till 9 February. The combat shakedown and coordination at the training grounds are aimed to practice defense actions and fight against illegal armed groups.

The joint exercise Allied Resolve 2022 will be held at the second stage of the inspection, from 10 to 20 February. The exercise will practice suppressing and repelling external aggression in the course of a defensive operation, countering terrorism and protecting the interests of the Union State.

“The scheduled drills are a great thing, but a surprise inspection of forces and means can paint a more realistic picture of the readiness of the troops to fulfill their tasks. We are carrying out large-scale maneuvers involving strategic regrouping over long distances, creation of groupings in operational areas and the fulfillment of tasks to fight back aggression,” Aleksandr Volfovich emphasized.

The troops are practicing their joint operations at the Obuz-Lesnovsky, Osipovichsky, Brestsky, Gozhsky and Domanovsky training grounds and also at some terrain sections in Belarus. The exercise is to involve the airfields in Baranovichi, Luninets, Lida and Machulishchi. In terms of manpower and firepower, the upcoming inspection is not subject to prior notification in accordance with the 2011 Vienna document.
