MINSK, 3 October (BelTA) – The priorities of Belarus’ chairmanship in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) were presented during EAEU Days in Geneva, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Republic of Belarus, which holds the EAEU chairmanship in 2025, supported the initiative of the Eurasian Economic Commission to organize this landmark event and made a significant contribution to its preparation.
At the opening ceremony of the EAEU Days, speeches were delivered by Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva Tatiana Valovaya, Chairman of the EEC Board Bakytzhan Sagintayev, and Permanent Representative of Belarus to the UN Office in Geneva Larisa Belskaya. Numerous representatives from states around the world attended the events of the EAEU Days.
The central event was an exhibition that showcased the rich tourism potential of the five EAEU member states. Among the Belarusian exhibits were the Belovezhskaya Pushcha nature reserve, the cultural and historical landmarks Brest Hero Fortress and Mir Castle, the unique architecture of Minsk’s Trinity Suburb, and the House-Museum of world-famous artist Marc Chagall in Vitebsk.
The stand dedicated to the development of industrial tourism in Belarus, and in particular the tourist tour to BelAZ, one of the flagships of industrialization and technological progress in modern Belarus, attracted great interest among numerous guests of the event.
At the roundtable discussion “Regional Economic Integration of the EAEU: 10-Year Results and Prospects for Partnership”, alongside the leadership of the Eurasian Economic Commission and representatives from the diplomatic missions of the five EAEU member states (Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia) heads and experts of specialized international organizations spoke, including the UN Economic Commission for Europe, the World Trade Organization, the UN Conference on Trade and Development, the International Organization for Migration, the International Labour Organization, and the World Intellectual Property Organization.
Larisa Belskaya and Director of the Department of Foreign Economic Activity of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrei Prokopchuk drew the attention to the priorities of Belarus’ EAEU chairmanship, which include strengthening industrial cooperation, developing technological potential and digital transformation, enhancing food security, accelerating integration in the services sector, creating a unified transport space, and expanding international cooperation. The Belarusian diplomats also emphasized the vision of the country’s leadership regarding the key directions for the further development of Eurasian economic integration.
The EAEU Days at the UN Office in Geneva became an important step in strengthening the international positioning and authority of the EAEU as a successful and promising model of integration, and outlined new prospects for cooperation between the EAEU, the UN, and specialized international organizations.
