Belarus PM: CIS has passed the test of time and meets all current requirements

ASHGABAT, 24 May (BelTA) – The Commonwealth of Independent States has passed the test of time and meets all the current requirements. Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko made the statement at a session of the CIS Heads of Government Council in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, BelTA has learned.

Roman Golovchenko said: “Today our states cannot help but feel consequences of the increase in global crisis phenomena and the formation of a new world order. You and I witness the downfall of the unipolar world and the rise of new centers of power that speak in favor of forming a multipolar world order without supremacy and domination of so-called mentors. Some may like it or not, but we believe that this process is already irreversible. This is why the demand is on the rise for unions of states with a common cultural and historical foundation, common interests relating to the development of their regions. The demand for stable, predictable, and equal interstate relations has also increased. The Commonwealth of Independent States meets all these criteria and it is particularly important that it has passed the test of time.”

The prime minister remarked that the CIS format allows preserving the commonality of approaches to tackling economic tasks and counteracting world global challenges in practice. “Despite various factors, pressure, post-pandemic events, pessimistic outlooks on the part of our ill-wishers we’ve managed to preserve unity in the CIS space and ensure persistent development of all the key social and economic indicators,” he stressed.
