Belarus, Laos conclude general agreement to increase trade

MINSK, 25 September (BelTA) - The governments of Belarus and Laos have concluded a general agreement on the provision of export credits, which creates an additional instrument for increasing mutual trade. On behalf of Belarus, the document was signed by Belarusian First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lukashevich during a working visit to Laos, BelTA learned from the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The fourth meeting of the Belarus-Laos joint intergovernmental commission on bilateral cooperation was held in Vientiane. Sergei Lukashevich attended the event and delivered a presentation on Belarus's foreign economic potential. The meeting also reviewed a wide range of issues related to trade and economic cooperation, the status and prospects of bilateral projects in various sectors, particularly in mechanical engineering and supplies of Belarusian industrial products, agriculture and food production, pharmaceuticals, and the financial sector. Particular attention was paid to measures for implementing the agreements reached at the level of the heads of state.
 
During his visit, Sergei Lukashevich held a meeting with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Maythong Thammavongsa of Laos. "The main focus was on coordinating further joint steps to develop political dialogue in the near term, including the exchange of visits at the highest and high levels. An analysis was conducted of the current state of the legal framework. An agreement was reached on measures aimed at the earliest possible entry into force of the intergovernmental agreement on the abolition of visas for holders of national passports, signed during the visit of Belarusian Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov to Laos in July 2025," the press service informed.The parties discussed in detail trade and economic cooperation, taking into account the results of sector-specific negotiations held on the sidelines of the intergovernmental commission meeting. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to continuing mutual support within multilateral organizations. 

The parties also reviewed humanitarian cooperation, in particular opportunities for training students from Laos in Belarusian universities. The Lao side appreciated Belarus's friendly gesture of hosting Lao children for summer holidays,” the press service said.
