Belarus FM sees human rights as basis for dialogue, not for confrontation

MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) - There is no one-size-fits-all approach to human rights, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov said as he addressed the high-level panel discussion of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva on 24 February, BelTA has learned.

“The so-called developed democracies do not practice what they preach. We have all grown tired of this. Nowadays they themselves violate human rights," the minister said.

Maksim Ryzhenkov pointed out that Belarus has repeatedly warned about the inadmissibility of double standards and dubious human rights concepts.

“When will the West finally realize that human rights are the basis for dialogue and cooperation, not for confrontation? They need to understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to realizing human rights,” Maksim Ryzhenkov stressed.
