Belarus-Azerbaijan interparliamentary cooperation described as exemplary

MINSK, 18 February (BelTA) – Interaction between the parliaments of Belarus and Azerbaijan is an example for many countries, Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova said as she met with Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, BelTA has learned.

“We are absolutely focused on constructive interaction. Of course, interparliamentary contacts are very important for us. I am sincerely grateful to you for your support on international platforms. Interaction between parliaments of Azerbaijan and Belarus is exemplary,” Natalya Kochanova remarked.

The speaker noted that Belarus-Azerbaijan relations have been tested by time. “The victory of Ilham Heydarovich and Aleksandr Grigorievich in the elections is a good foundation to keep building strategic cooperation between our countries. And we, parliamentarians, must do everything to ensure that this cooperation makes good progress in all areas,” the chairperson of the Council of the Republic emphasized.

The parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Belarus led by Chairperson of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova arrived in Azerbaijan on an official visit.

The program of the visit includes a meeting between Natalya Kochanova and Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, a session of the Executive Council of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), the 15th Plenary Session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, and a number of bilateral meetings.

The topic of the plenary session is “Role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening multilateral cooperation in Asia”. The participants of the meetings will consider  granting the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus observer status in the APA.
