Arrests of Belarusian property ‘will not go unanswered'

MINSK, 18 July (BelTA) – Actions to arrest Belarusian property abroad will not go unanswered, BelTA learned from Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei.

Vladimir Makei said: “Certainly, we pay attention to such actions. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with colleagues from other ministries and government agencies thoroughly analyzes all such cases of seizure of our property, arrests of our assets, and naturally works out adequate steps. We study all the arrests of Belarusian property abroad in detail: what property is arrested and how much it is worth. Such actions will not go unanswered in the future.”

Vladimir Makei speculated the Western countries are not acting smart in this regard. In his words, the Belarusian side is now looking into the legal side of the matter.

“No, I cannot say the situation is favorable with regard to the contestation of such illegal cases. But I think the circumstances will gradually change and we will get concrete, genuine legal, political, and economic grounds for the return of this property,” he concluded.
