Ambassador: Belarus-China tourism cooperation opens new horizons

MINSK, 30 January (BelTA) – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Belarus Zhang Wenchuan commented on the development of tourism ties between the two countries while speaking to journalists in the run-up to the Chinese New Year, the Spring Festival, on 29 January, BelTA has learned.

“The mutual visa-waiver agreement introduced in 2018 has significantly boosted bilateral exchanges. In 2024, Belarus’ export of tourism services to China grew by 30%, with China ranking among the top three destinations after Russia and Türkiye. In January-August 2025, China climbed to second place behind Russia. China consistently ranks among the top five countries for inbound tourism to Belarus, with direct flights connecting Belarus to four Chinese cities,” Ambassador Zhang Wenchuan noted.
“Based on our observations and feedback from various sources, Chinese tourists show keen interest in various aspects of Belarusian culture, particularly its rich history and heritage. The Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex and other World War II monuments, as well as palaces and castles, allow visitors to experience the national spirit of Belarus more deeply. Traditional folk customs and rural life, wooden houses in the countryside, home-style cuisine, and encounters with crafts, provide an unforgettable immersion into authentic culture,” the diplomat emphasized.

He added that Belarus’ natural landscapes and national parks are also attractive to Chinese tourists, becoming popular destinations for eco-tourism and wellness travel.

“We are confident that through the consistent development of specialized cultural and tourist routes, the expansion of services in Chinese, the advancement of digital guides, and stronger promotion in China, cooperation between our countries in culture and tourism will open up even broader prospects,” the ambassador said.
