MINSK, 14 June (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia should not only maintain but also develop interregional cooperation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Yevgeny Lukyanov told the media after his meeting with Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Natalya Kochanova, BelTA has learned.

“The main topic of today's meeting was the bilateral cooperation between the MPs of the two countries and between Russia and Belarus in general. The most important thing, and here my point of view coincided with the one of Natalya Ivanovna [Kochanova], is efficiency and specificity, interregional ties. It is the most valuable thing that we should not just preserve but further develop. The forthcoming forum of Russian and Belarusian regions, which is to take place in Moscow and Moscow Oblast, testifies to the fact. It is not our first forum. It has become a regular event. We both supported this issue and believe that this is the way to build normal relations between countries, people, cultures and economies,” said Yevgeny Lukyanov.

According to him, the cooperation between Belarus and Russia is based on the contacts between the leaders of the two countries. “First of all, the contact between the leaders is important and necessary, and it actually takes place. Most importantly, however, is that once the leaders of our countries define common positions, it becomes easier for all of us to work in different areas. We know the agreements, a certain joint plan, jointly expressed intentions. The only difficulty is that all of this has to be done in a timely and high-quality manner. There can be delays here. This is, however, quite understandable, I think,” he said.
