MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) - There is a demand for a broader dialogue between parliaments of many countries, Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Standing Commission of on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, told the media on the sidelines of the CIS IPA session in St. Petersburg, Russia on 21 November, BelTA has learned.
“There are a number of important issues on the agenda of the Commission on Political Affairs and International Cooperation. First of all, it is a joint address to mark the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. We are set to discuss and adopt this document. On the agenda is also the discussion of our joint work at the 149th Assembly of the IPU, where we worked within the framework of the geopolitical group “Eurasia” and actively participated in the discussion of the international agenda. Of course, we will also discuss issues of further coordination and preparation for the next 150th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held in Uzbekistan,” Sergei Aleinik said.
According to Sergei Aleinik, three issues will be discussed today. They concern requests from parliamentary international structures to obtain observer status at the CIS IPA. Such requests were submitted by the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Central American Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
“This shows that there is a request for a broader inter-parliamentary dialogue between the parliaments of many countries. Of course, we are interested in developing and strengthening this dialogue. Belarus is actively working with regional inter-parliamentary structures. Not so long ago, we applied for observer status in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly. A few weeks ago, we received such a status in the Pan-African Parliamentary Assembly. We intend to strengthen these formats of inter-parliamentary cooperation. We are promoting a unifying agenda, and judging by the discussions that are going on between the parliaments of the global majority, there is a request for dialogue, cooperation and interaction to jointly search for ways to solve acute problems,” Sergei Aleinik added.
