The unique icon Theotokos Hodegetria from the collection of the Romanov Mogilev Regional Local History Museum was sent to the National Art Museum for restoration three years ago. During restoration work, specialists discovered earlier, deeper layers beneath a layer of 19th-century painting. They have fully revealed the original 17th-century painting. One of the features that helped date the icon is the carved ornamental background known in Belarusian iconography since the second half of the 16th century. Today, Theotokos Hodegetria is on display at the National Art Museum as part of a single-piece exhibition.
