The cathedral was built in the 17th-18th centuries as a Carmelite church. The stone church was erected in Glubokoye in 1639-1654 using donations from Mstislavl voivode Iosif Korsak. In 1735, the church was rebuilt to the design of the famous architect Johann Christoph Glaubitz and became the first specimen of “Vilna” Baroque architecture in Belarus. In 1875, after a slight reconstruction, the building was reconsecrated into the Orthodox church. Today the parish of the Glubokoye Cathedral is the largest in the Polotsk Diocese. The church has a Sunday school for children and adults, an Orthodox library, and a professional choir.
