Abu Dhabi Team breaks world record in Italy’s Pavia-Venice race

VENICE, 4 June (BelTA - Emirates News Agency) - The Abu Dhabi Team for Powerboat Racing has achieved a historic milestone in marine sports, as veteran Italian driver Guido Cappellini piloted the team’s boat to a new world record in the Pavia-Venice race - the longest river powerboat race in the world.

The race commenced in the northern Italian city of Pavia, following the course of the Po River - the country’s longest river - and concluded in the coastal city of Venice, covering a distance of approximately 415 kilometres.

Cappellini completed the race in a record-breaking time of 1 hour, 41 minutes, and 54 seconds, achieving an astonishing average speed of 207.26 km/h, surpassing the previous record of 203.34 km/h set in 2005 by Italian racer Dino Zantelli.

This achievement adds to Cappellini’s illustrious career, as he remains one of the most distinguished powerboat racers in history and has led Team Abu Dhabi to numerous world titles since joining the team.

The Pavia–Venice race is one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe, demanding exceptional skill in navigation and control across a long, winding river route with natural challenges such as currents and sharp turns.

This accomplishment is yet another addition to the UAE’s growing legacy of excellence across various fields and underscores Team Abu Dhabi’s commitment to elevating the nation’s profile on the global sports stage.
