Yuri Chebotar names key tasks in his new role as Belarus’ economy minister

MINSK, 4 January (BelTA) – Newly appointed Economy Minister Yuri Chebotar told reporters about his key tasks in a new role, BelTA has learned.
 
While making personnel decisions, the head of state once again highlighted the important role of the Economy Ministry in ensuring sustainable socio-economic development of the country. This task is taking on new significance in view of the 2024 elections, Yuri Chebotar emphasized. “The Economy Ministry should be more proactive and put forward initiatives, and this is what our team is going to do,” he said.
 
Describing the current state of affairs in the country’s economy, the minister noted that it is adapting to emerging challenges and difficulties. This adaptation is facilitated, among other things, by decisions of the head of state, the government, and the initiatives of the Economy Ministry.
 
According to Yuri Chebotar, 2023 was pretty good in terms of GDP growth, and everything is in place to achieve the 3.8% GDP growth target in 2024.
 
The minister named the development of the investment cycle as one of the key tasks. According to him, investments grew by more than 20% every month in the second half of 2023. “The purchase of equipment and investment in equipment reaches 40-50%. In other words, enterprises, our real sector of the economy are undertaking an upgrade. And this means new production facilities, new jobs, growth in exports and a more robust technological development,” he noted.
