
MINSK, 16 April (BelTA) - Belarus is extremely interested in strengthening trade and economic relations with Algeria, Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Shuleiko said as he met with Youcef Cherfa, Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, BelTA learned.
Yuri Shuleiko noted that trade and economic relations between Belarus and Algeria are quite promising and can develop in various new avenues. Given the extensive experience of Youcef Cherfa in senior positions, Yuri Shuleiko expressed confidence that the parties would find constructive approaches to move forward.

“2024 was the most productive year in recent years for our trade relationship. Mutual trade amounted to about $50 million, a multiple of previous years. I think this is not the limit, but only the beginning of a journey towards the planned goals, which, in particular, will be discussed during your visit to our country,” Yuri Shuleiko said as he addressed the Algerian minister. “We will outline further steps in those areas that will be most beneficial to both our countries”.

This year Belarus received certificates to supply beef to Algeria, which will become an additional contribution to the trade between the countries,Yuri Shuleiko noted.
Belarus is also interested in establishing cooperation in machine building. “We have good competencies in the production of agricultural machinery, our BelAZ rock haulers have been successfully used in the quarries of Algeria. We have also supplied fertilizers, petrochemical products,” he added.
