VITEBSK, 13 March (BelTA) - A delegation from Uzbekistan’s Qashqadaryo Region met with senior officials of Vitebsk Oblast, BelTA has learned.
The delegation from Uzbekistan was in Vitebsk Oblast on a visit from March 11 to 13. They toured a number of agricultural enterprises in Vitebsk, Glubokoye, Ushachi, and Sharkovshchina districts to examine their operations.
“Relations between Uzbekistan and Belarus are gaining momentum. We have come to Vitebsk Oblast to explore cooperation in food security. We know that products from Vitebsk Oblast and Belarus are valued for their quality all over the world. Our goal is to purchase your meat, meat products, milk, powdered milk, and to supply you with fruit and vegetables, including dried fruits, watermelons, melons, and others,” said Shakhrier Khamzayev, head of investment, industry, and trade of the Qashqadaryo regional administration.

He also reported that contracts have already been concluded with Vitebsk Meat-Packing Plant, Glubokoye Meat-Packing Plant and Glubokoye Canning Plant. Beef supplies to Uzbekistan are planned. The initial volume is 100 tonnes per month. The meeting also discussed the prospects of establishing beef production enterprises in Vitebsk Oblast. For these purposes, the Uzbek side is exploring the capabilities of Glubokoye District. At the initial stage, the plans are to raise 1,000 head of cattle, with a future target of up to 10,000 head.
The guests from Uzbekistan also expressed interest in joint cooperation: they are ready to export fruit and vegetable products to Vitebsk Oblast and import baby food.
"There are many areas for cooperation, and we are committed to furthering relations with Vitebsk Oblast,” Shakhrier Khamzayev said.
