MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – The monthly losses of the Belarusian aviation industry due to sanctions are estimated at $10.3 million, BelTA learned from Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Sivak during a joint session of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus on 25 June.
According to Anatoly Sivak, the aviation industry faces a complicated task of recovering from revenue losses caused not only by the pandemic but by restrictions introduced by the European Union, the UK, and Ukraine.
The official said: “On the whole, monthly sanction-related losses of the aviation industry are estimated at $10.3 million. Since aircraft are forced to fly around Ukraine, it has resulted in longer flights and much higher costs. The increase in costs in July-December 2021 is estimated at about $5 million.”
Belarus is working with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to defend national interests and resolve the situation. Complaints about the illegality of the actions taken against Belarus have been prepared for ICAO. Meanwhile, in order to increase the frequency of flights more flights are being offered to Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Israel, Georgia, and other countries.
The air fleet of the Belarusian air carrier Belavia has been expanded with three new aircraft. A new air traffic control center has been commissioned. A facility for painting aircraft is being built.
