Russia’s Novosibirsk Oblast governor praises cooperation with Belarus

BREST, 21 June (BelTA) - Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi and Governor of Brest Oblast Piotr Parkhomchik met with a delegation from Russia’s Novosibirsk Oblast led by Governor Andrei Travnikov in Brest on 21 June, BelTA has learned.

“We need to build closer ties. We can be useful to one another and complement each other,” Piotr Parkhomchik said. “Brest Oblast differs from other parts of Belarus. We have a strong private sector that successfully pursues investment policy and, most importantly, produces high-quality goods with a stable customer base in the Russian Federation.” He emphasized that Brest Oblast is a leader in agriculture and food production and is ready to supply vegetables to Novosibirsk Oblast. Brest Oblast is also focusing on industrial development, modernization and expansion of production facilities. Investment projects are being implemented, and Novosibirsk Oblast businesses may find opportunities in the Free Economic Zone Brest and industrial parks in Baranovichi and Pinsk.
“Your visit to our region can give new impetus to our cooperation. We need to launch joint projects and identify key areas. You will visit our enterprises. We are very flexible and make decisions quickly,” Piotr Parkhomchik added. He proposed updating the roadmap to intensify cooperation across all areas, and this proposal was supported. The document will be supplemented with new provisions.

“What I can say about our relations with the Republic of Belarus as a whole, and with Brest Oblast in particular: trade is increasing, cooperation is expanding. But this delegation visit led by me is meant to give that process an extra boost, because people in Novosibirsk are well familiar with the food products made here. That includes dairy products of Savushkin Product, goods of the Brest Meat Processing Plant, and of course, all of Russia knows about Gefest gas stoves. Still, there are niches where we believe new potential can be found,” Andrei Travnikov emphasized.
The two parties plan to deepen cooperation in mechanical engineering and fruit and vegetable processing. Brest Oblast is also interested in importing industrial crops grown in Novosibirsk Oblast.

“All matters related to humanitarian cooperation have boundless potential. Even though we already have a number of joint cultural and educational projects, I believe we have much to share when it comes to patriotic education for youth,” the Novosibirsk Oblast governor added.

During their two-day visit, the Novosibirsk delegation will tour several enterprises in Brest, attend a requiem concert at Brest Fortress commemorating the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Genocide of the Belarusian People, and observe a historical reenactment of the Brest Fortress’s defense at dawn on 22 June. The visit also includes a tour to the national center for patriotic education of youth based in Brest Fortress.
