PM: Belarus, Kyrgyzstan are in position to increase trade to $500m over next five years

ALMATY, 30 January (BelTA) - Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are in position to increase trade to $500 million over the next five years, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko said during a meeting with Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic - Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic Adylbek Kasymaliev in Almaty, BelTA learned.

As it was noted at the meeting, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan have similar approaches to addressing many topical issues both on the bilateral track and within the framework of integration organizations and international agenda.

“Now is a very good time to discuss the results of the past year and to highlight certain key points in our work for the coming period. Economy has always been a priority for our cooperation, as it gives concrete practical results for both countries,” Roman Golovchenko said.
According to him, in January-November 2024, the trade between Belarus and Kyrgyzstan rose to the level of 2023 and exceeded $160 million. “We need to keep the momentum going, especially since we have a potential for this,” the prime minister noted.

Based on the groundwork the two countries are well-positioned to bring the trade over the next five years to $500 million, he emphasized. “This is quite a high bar. We have never had such figures. But now we consider them quite achievable, especially since there is a good momentum in the bilateral projects,” the Belarusian head of government added.
Roman Golovchenko is in Almaty, Kazakhstan on a working visit on 30-31 January to participate in the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council.
