Minister: Belarusian energy system goes digital

MINSK, 12 October (BelTA) - The Belarusian energy system has been rapidly assimilating digital technologies, Belarusian Energy Minister Viktor Karankevich said as he opened Energy Expo, the 25th installment of the Belarusian energy and environmental forum, BelTA has learned.

“We have a automation and digitalization strategy for energy and gas supplying companies. It is designed to run in 2021-2025. It has yielded some concrete results. We have digitized all gas systems, more than 65,000km of gas networks. All this makes part of a three-ties automated complex. All technological processes are highly automated. Thanks to this, labor productivity increases, operating costs are reduced, dispatchers can quickly respond to problems," Viktor Karankevich said.

In the energy industry, work is now underway to automate generation facilities. Particular attention is paid to grid objects in terms of transmission and distribution of electricity. "A good example is the recent commissioning of the 330kV substation ‘Mogilev 330'. This is the first digital substation of this voltage class in Mogilev. It has used the most advanced technologies to collect and transmit information, digital current and voltage transformers, optical cable communications between various devices," the minister said.

Under this project, TW fault locators that determine the place of damage on power lines has been used for the first time in Belarus. They make it possible to locate with high accuracy, up to several tens of meters, the place of damage on power lines. Respectively, the time required for their elimination is significantly reduced.
