Matviyenko: Russia, Belarus need to make their economies immune to external shocks

VITEBSK, 28 June (BelTA) -  Russia and Belarus have been working systemically to make their economies immune to any external shocks, Valentina Matviyenko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, said during the plenary session "The role of interregional cooperation in building an innovative economy of the Union State", BelTA has learned.

"The global world order is changing before our eyes today. The system of international relations is transforming. In these conditions, the victory will be for those countries that rely on innovative, high-tech economic development , on maximum protection from external threats. Russia and Belarus have chosen this path for themselves. We have been working systemically to make their economies immune to any external shocks," Valentina Matviyenko said.



"We are not seeking to replace everything and everyone. However, in key sectors, Russia and Belarus should be leaders, if you will, trendsetters. We have all the conditions and opportunities for this," Valentina Matviyenko said. “The Strategy for the Scientific and Technological Development of the Union State until 2035 was adopted early this year and this is an important milestone. This document defines a whole range of constructive areas of joint work."

According to her, Russia and Belarus should ramp up cooperation in the manufacturing sector. "Further development of industrial cooperation between Russian and Belarusian enterprises remains among he top priorities," Valentina Matviyenko added.
