"On Point"
MINSK, 8 March (BelTA) – In a recent episode of BelTA’s YouTube project On Point Yulia Abukhovich, an expert on economy, head of the educational center Aksios of the Belarusian scientific research and R&D company OAO Giprosvjaz, explained how the Belarusian economy manages to offset the negative influence of sanctions and demonstrate growth in these conditions.
The expert remarked that the mobilization of enterprises was one of the key factors. “Our enterprises realized that they either have to start working and looking for ways out or die,” she stated.
Yulia Abukhovich stressed that the political will of the head of state plays quite a big role in it. “The president said right away: forget sanctions. They don’t exist. It is just a new reality, new business operation conditions. And if we want to live and develop, we have to adapt to these new economic conditions,” the expert said.
In her opinion, the diversification of markets, the reorientation to the East, search for new partners, and constant efforts to improve product quality have had a positive impact on the development of the Belarusian economy amid the sanctions.
“It was necessary to offset the situation, negate all our problems, and grow. And we do demonstrate growth. Yes, we are in a complicated situation right now. It is partially due to fragmentation. But we’ve never had it easy. And this mutual understanding between the government, the enterprises, ordinary citizens may have allowed us to endure and continue moving on,” Yulia Abukhovich concluded.
