ROSTOV-ON-DON, 28 November (BelTA) – Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi told the media about the plan for Belarus and Russia’s Rostov Oblast to reach $1 billion in trade, BelTA has learned.
“$1 billion in trade is the target agreed upon by the Belarusian president and the governor of Rostov Oblast. We acknowledge that sales of mechanical engineering products have declined. However, it should be noted that other industries are developing quite well. In particular, supplies of tire and metallurgical products to Rostov Oblast have increased. Our light industry is also performing well in this region, with a growth of about 20% just over the past year. Light industry enterprises have a network of branded stores and see great prospects here. Owing to the quality of our brands, Belarusian light industry products enjoy steady demand. According to the preferences of Rostov Oblast residents, they hold third place in the rankings, behind only cosmetics and food,” Dmitry Krutoi said.
V.I. Kozlov Minsk Electrotechnical Plant has increased supplies of transformers as part of a large program to modernize the power grid and develop generating capacities in Rostov Oblast. “Our manufacturers have done a great job, quickly integrated and are working,” the head of the Belarus President Administration added.
Belarusian tractor maker MTZ, together with Russia’s Salskselmash, is developing a line of mounted technological equipment, creating a cooperation platform in Rostov Oblast under the BELARUS brand. “This will be a good addition to the commercial products that will be sold through the multi-brand center of Belarusian machinery that opened in the region today,” Dmitry Krutoi emphasized.
Regarding cooperation in machine tool building, the Belarusian side is creating investment proposal exchanges. Three plants, StankoGomel, Vistan, and Krasny Borets, have found partners and begun successfully selling their products in Rostov Oblast.
“The president is absolutely right that we need to look for new areas. One such area will be helicopter and aircraft manufacturing. Two of our enterprises, the 558th Aircraft Repair Plant in Baranovichi and the Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant, are now working with their partners in Rostov Oblast to go beyond repairing, say, Mil Mi-8 helicopters, and launch a production program to manufacture specific components and parts for final assembly in Rostov Oblast. The governor has taken a pause, saying it is necessary to carefully calculate, taking into account logistics, prices, and the final competitiveness of the machines, how all this will work,” the head of the Belarus President Administration noted.
He separately highlighted cooperation with small and medium-sized businesses and noted that development institutions, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the National Marketing Center, and the agency for foreign economic activity, are underperforming in this area. “We should have had cooperation exchanges with Rostov Oblast long ago and found additional avenues of cooperation and interaction,” Dmitry Krutoi emphasized.
Cooperation in agriculture is also promising. “The president noted that Rostov Oblast, being one of the leaders in Russia’s grain market, exports almost everything. There is almost no processing within the region. The governor requested standard Belarusian solutions for the construction of dairy farms. We have selected partners in the region who are interested in dairy farming and beef cattle breeding, and we will try to develop cooperation,” the head of the Belarus President Administration shared plans.
The Belarusian National Biotechnology Corporation has begun supplying lysine to a number of poultry farms, in particular, to Rostov Broiler enterprise. Plans are in place to expand cooperation in this area. Supplies of amino acids have also begun, and the topic of pedigree poultry farming has been added to the agenda.
