Gomel Oblast increases exports to Russia by 1.7 times via commodity exchange

MINSK, 18 June (BelTA) - Enterprises from Gomel Oblast increased the value of export exchange deals for domestic goods to the Russian market by 1.7 times: from $45.8 million in January-May 2024 to $76.5 million in the same period of 2025, Director of the Gomel Branch of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) Grigory Ginsar said during a seminar for business entities organized by the Gomel City Executive Committee in cooperation with the Trade Mission of the Russian Federation in Belarus, BelTA has learned.

According to Grigory Ginsar, most companies of Gomel Oblast accredited by BUCE actively use the exchange mechanism in trade with Russian partners, exporting a wide range of goods.

“In 2025, Gomel Oblast mostly exported to Russia forestry and agricultural products, primarily lumber, cellulose, butter, powdered milk, and meat products. For example, powdered milk accounted for 30% of export deals, lumber - for 24%. A notable new product is cellulose, which has not been exported to Russia via the exchange before 2025. In January-May 2025, deals for this product exceeded $2.8 million,” the director said.

As of 18 June 2025, BUCE accredited 3,072 business entities from Gomel Oblast, 63 of them were accredited in 2025. In January-May 2025, these companies concluded exchange deals totaling Br1.1 billion, which was 37% more year-on-year.

Founded in 2004, the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange conducted its first trading session in June 2005. BUCE is one of the largest commodity exchanges in Eastern Europe. Its main function is to assist Belarusian enterprises with export and foreign companies with entering the Belarusian market. BUCE sells a wide range of metal, forestry and agricultural products, industrial and consumer goods.
