Food exports by Eurasian Economic Union double over ten years

MINSK, 4 June (BelTA) - Food exports by the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) doubled over the past 10 years, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Bakytzhan Sagintayev said at the plenary session "Food Security of the Eurasian Economic Union" held at the Belagro forum within the framework of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council meeting on 3 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Eurasian Economic Council.

Bakytzhan Sagintayev stated that the EAEU countries make a significant contribution to the global food security: the union holds a leading position in the world in the export of certain agricultural products. "In his speech, the chairman of the EEC Board said that over 10 years, agricultural exports by the EAEU countries doubled. The union has the status of a net exporter," the EEC noted.

"In 2014-2023, the EAEU countries ramped up agricultural production by 125.4%. The level of self-sufficiency in main foods has increased to 93%. Mutual supplies of food products increased by 1.6 times," Bakytzhan Sagintayev said.

Speaking about the importance of overcoming dependence on imported material and technical resources, Bakytzhan Sagintayev urged to ramp up the production of high-tech goods and to introduce innovative solutions in the agricultural sector in the EAEU. In his opinion, this can be facilitated, among other things, by cooperation projects. "At the first stage, we are planning to support projects in manufacturing. In the future, this pool can be replenished by agricultural projects," Bakytzhan Sagintayev added.
