BelAZ truck shipments, tractor assembly project. Ambassador on Belarus-India cooperation

MINSK, 8 February (BelTA) - Belarus is set to supply an additional 20 BelAZ mining dump trucks to India. The two parties are also negotiating the establishment of a tractor assembly plant, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of India Mikhail Kasko said on the air of Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.

BelAZ is fulfilling a long-term contract, including maintenance and the supply of spare parts. The trucks are used at facilities operated by Coal India, the country's largest coal producer.

“Nearly 100 BelAZ trucks continue to operate successfully. We are set to supply perhaps an additional 20 trucks there,” the ambassador said.

On the instructions of the head of state, negotiations on establishing an assembly plant for Belarusian tractors in India are continuing. The project is being implemented jointly with Minsk Tractor Works and the Industry Ministry. Despite delays, according to the ambassador, the current approaches of MTZ provide grounds to expect intensified efforts.

The Indian agricultural machinery market is one of the largest in the world, featuring not only local manufacturers but also international ones. The challenge is not only to compete but also to identify niches where existing machinery for cotton and rice fields, among other areas, can be complemented.
Approximately one million tractors are sold annually. “Even if we can carve out a small niche, even just one percent, that would amount to tens of thousands of machines,” the ambassador said.

In addition to machinery, timber products are in demand. Significant progress has also been made in the textile industry. Orsha fabrics and threads are finding their place on the Indian market. Fertilizers are being supplied to the Indian market.

The embassy, together with government agencies, is taking measures to diversify exports. “Last year, we practically met all targets. This shows that the strategy developed in previous years is working. We identified the goods and the enterprises responsible for cooperation with India,” Ambassador Mikhail Kasko noted.

Another area of collaboration is education. Currently, the focus is mainly on training medical professionals. “We aim to significantly expand the range of specialties that could be attractive to Indian citizens," the ambassador shared.

India supports Belarus on the international stage. “We are building our relations on the basis of equal, partnership-based ties,” the Belarusian ambassador added.
