Belarusian tractor maker MTZ builds up its presence in Africa

MINSK, 28 January (BelTA) - The Belarusian tractor maker MTZ builds up its presence in AfricaEvery year, MTZ Director General Sergei Avramenko told the media following the visit of the delegation of the Pan-African Parliament headed by Chairman Fortune Charumbira to MTZ, BelTA learned from the enterprise.

“The MTZ tractors have been widely represented on the African continent for quite a long time. At the present stage, BELARUS tractors are becoming more and more in demand. Every year the number of African countries where we supply our products increases. For example, we are now finalizing the shipment of equipment under a large contract for 2,000 units with Nigeria. We are preparing to sign a new document, similar in terms of the volume of deliveries. We are also actively supplying tractors to Zimbabwe. Two 350hp BELARUS tractors with attachments were shipped to Kenya. Togo, Mali, South Africa, Madagascar... The main thing is that both MTZ and African states are committed to developing mutually beneficial cooperation,” Sergei Avramenko noted.

In turn, Fortune Charumbira emphasized the high industrial potential of Belarus: “It is better to see once than to hear a hundred times. I saw with my own eyes that Belarus is a country with well-developed industry and infrastructure. African countries are at a lower level in this respect, especially with regard to agricultural production. So far, agricultural mechanization in Africa is not as high as in Belarus. Just around 30-40%, although it should be much higher. I invite partners from Belarus to set up assembly plants in African countries. I believe that this can be mutually beneficial. You will be able to expand your sales markets, and we will be able to continue mechanizing agriculture and ensuring food security.”
