MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) - Representatives of the Belarusian delegation spoke about the outcomes of the visit of Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov to Addis Ababa in an interview to Belarus 1 TV Channel, BelTA has learned.

Belarus and Ethiopia have celebrated the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. “The meeting of the leaders of our countries, Belarus and Ethiopia, on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan was a logical conclusion of this anniversary year and an important stage in the history of bilateral relations between our countries. The Ethiopian economy has a great demand for the development of agriculture, industry, mining sector, innovations and technologies of the IT sector. By and large, this is the roadmap that is on the surface, the competencies, goods and technologies, knowledge that we possess and can offer to our Ethiopian partners,” said Pavel Vzyatkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Kenya with concurrent accreditation to the United Republic of Tanzania, the Republic of Uganda, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the African Union, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

Speaking about the cooperation between Belarus and Ethiopia in agriculture, Deputy Food and Agriculture Minister Vadim Shagoiko noted that during the visit the parties discussed issues related to training specialists for agriculture in Belarusian universities.

“The range of our educational programs is quite flexible and wide. We can offer both a full four-year course and preparatory courses in all specialties of agriculture,” he said.

Ethiopia is also interested in supplies of MTZ and MAZ machinery, and is ready to consider the establishment of joint production facilities.

“We discussed the topic of mining machinery, which is also in demand here. We see how Ethiopia is developing today. We should develop together with it, then we will be able to gain a foothold in this market. It is of great importance for us, as more than 130 million people live here,” Deputy Industry Minister Andrei Kuznetsov said.

As BelTA reported earlier, during the official visit to Ethiopia, Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov held talks with Ethiopian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos.

Attending the meeting on Belarus’ behalf were also representatives of the Industry Ministry and the Food and Agriculture Ministry. Maksim Ryzhenkov also invited Ethiopian business to actively visit Belarusian thematic exhibitions, including Belagro 2025. The parties agreed to hold Days of Belarusian Culture, Education and Sports in Ethiopia with a view to strengthening bilateral ties.

The talks confirmed the mutual interest of Belarus and Ethiopia in deepening multifaceted cooperation. During the meetings with business representatives, the parties discussed specific projects to set up assembly plants in Ethiopia based on Belarusian technologies and competencies, including the production of tractor machinery and agricultural equipment.
