Belarusian commodity exchange to develop trade with Russia’s Kurgan Oblast

MINSK, 16 September (BelTA) - The Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) is interested in deepening cooperation with enterprises of the industrial sector of Russia’s Kurgan Oblast in terms of supplies of rolled metal products and technological equipment to Belarus, BelTA learned from the BUCE press service.

“Today the exchange mechanism is used by a number of Kurgan manufacturers of metal structures and fasteners as an additional sales channel in the Belarusian market. The volume of transactions and the number of traders indicate that the potential is still hugely untapped in this area,” German Puzyrny, Deputy Head of the Foreign Economic Activity Department of the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange, said.

The opinion was expressed during the seminar “Topical Issues of Conducting Business Activities in the Republic of Belarus for Russian Companies” held at the Trade Representation of Russia in Belarus. The seminar was attended by the Kurgan business delegation led by Kurgan Oblast Vice Governor Sergei Gavrin said.

“Compared to January-August 2023, the amount of exchange transactions of Kurgan Oblast enterprises increased almost 3.5 times, mainly thanks to regular supplies of steel structures for the Belarusian construction industry. The number of Kurgan companies accredited at the exchange has increased. The exchange cooperation between Belarus and Kurgan Oblast is gradually gaining momentum,” the deputy head of the Foreign Economic Activity Department said.

The pace of development of exchange cooperation between the subjects could be significantly higher if the exchange platform is used more widely by representatives of Kurgan business. It means not only the increase of exports to Belarus, but also the purchase of Belarusian products in demand in the region, including agricultural machinery and food products. “There are indeed many points of contact, and it is in our interests to work on each of them together,” German Puzyrny said.

The possibilities of using the exchange platform for trade with Belarus outlined during the seminar were of interest to the manufacturers of pipeline valves, electric generators, special equipment and waterproofing materials from Kurgan Oblast. In this regard, BUCE expressed its readiness to assist in accrediting Kurgan enterprises and placing bids for the sale of their products.

According to BUCE, in January-August 2024 residents of Russia sold metal products and industrial goods to Belarusian exchange traders totaling $86.6 million. The growth rate to the same period of 2023 made up 111%.
