Belarus' State Control Committee to focus on budgetary spending

MINSK, 26 January (BelTA) - Particular attention will be paid to the control over spending of budgetary funds, Vasily Gerasimov, who was appointed Chairman of the State Control Committee of Belarus on 26 January, told the media, BelTA has learned.

According to Vasily Gerasimov, during the appointment ceremony Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko urged that all the activities of the State Control Committee should be performed strictly within the legal framework. “If we punish anyone, we need to punish by law, based on the responsibility established in the country. In particular, this applies to the issues of illegal financing of destructive activities from abroad,” said Vasily Gerasimov.

During the meeting the president's attention was drawn to the fact that the classical tasks for the committee remain intact. This is primarily control over the spending of budgetary funds. “Both legality and efficiency are important here,” the new head of the State Control Committee of Belarus stressed.

He added: “Attention was also drawn to the fact that we need to do our best to get rid of the activities that are unnecessary or will not bring the effect that we expect.”

As for state property, the president gave a separate instruction to the committee to “take special control over all unfinished facilities and complete them.”

Vasily Gerasimov informed that the number of inspections is decreasing across the country, and this is true not only for the State Control Committee that coordinates all monitoring activities. “This is moving into the category of preventive measures, which have a positive effect,” said the chairman.

The State Control Committee also intends to pay close attention to the issues of mediation and taxation.
