Belarus seeks to increase food supplies to Qatar

MINSK, 23 February (BelTA) - Belarus hopes to significantly increase food supplies to Qatar, Belarus’ Deputy Food and Agriculture Minister Vadim Shagoiko told the media during the official visit of Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko to Qatar, BelTA has learned.

“We are interested in supplying our foodstuffs to the Persian Gulf countries. Belarus has achieved significant results in food production, fully satisfies the domestic market and actively exports its goods. We have been working with this region for several years, supplying dry dairy products. We are keen to expand the range of products. We can offer a full range of dairy products. Moreover, we have completed accreditation for the Halal certification and are ready to supply meat products,” Vadim Shagoiko stated.

The Belarusian delegation aims to offer Qatar a full range of products during the meetings which will take place within the framework of the official visit. “We look forward to discussing our commercial offers. We hope to build up close relations and expand the range of supplies,” the deputy minister added.

According to him, Belarus already supplies whole milk products to Qatar. “Certainly, this batch is still insignificant and delivered by airplanes, but it already includes cottage cheese, sour cream and cheese,” Vadim Shagoiko said.

He emphasized that Belarus has actively increased food supplies to Qatar in recent years. “In 2023 it amounted to about $600,000. In 2024 we have already exceeded $1 million. We have already reached specific agreements to expand the supply and range of products in 2025. So, the work is underway, and, certainly, food exports will grow. We set the task to increase the supply by several times,” the deputy minister stressed.

Given the long distance between Belarus and Qatar, logistics is the top priority. “We cannot enter this market with all types of products, as there are perishable ones. However, we can offer chilled products packaged in a way to have a longer shelf life,” Vadim Shagoiko remarked.

Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko is currently on an official visit to Qatar. A number of meetings with the country's leadership are scheduled.
