Belarus, Russia's Stavropol Territory aim to increase trade to $500m

STAVROPOL, 28 November (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia's Stavropol Territory plan to increase trade to $500 million, Head of the Belarus President Administration Dmitry Krutoi told the media following a meeting with Governor of Stavropol Territory Vladimir Vladimirov, BelTA has learned.

During the meeting, the parties discussed supplies of Belarusian machinery to Stavropol Territory, including passenger vehicles and tractors.

"Over the past five years, our mutual trade has tripled. Therefore, the current slight dip in trade is not critical. Our plans and contracts give us reasons to look to the future with optimism. The goal agreed upon by the governor and our president, namely to reach a trade of $500 million, is, I believe, quite achievable in the future, given the current portfolio of strong projects," Dmitry Krutoi said.

Stavropol Territory has a very strong petrochemical complex and many fertilizer producers. “This is also a strong area of expertise for Belarus. However, in my opinion, our companies are not yet communicating enough. Therefore, we will assign point persons to identify avenues of cooperation,” Dmitry Krutoi added.

Another promising area is the electronic and microelectronic industry and also optics. “Some companies in Stavropol are making significant investments in these sectors. They can find partners and collaborators in Belarus. Among all our industrial sectors, this one is showing the highest growth pace, and we are already working in other regions of Russia. However, for some reason, contacts in Stavropol Territory are minimal so far. Our task is to establish these contacts and find our mutual interests here,” Dmitry Krutoi said.

Cooperation in agriculture is always relevant. "Stavropol Territory has a massive program for investment projects in livestock farming for the next three years. We will actively participate in this program. There are already individual pilot projects for supplying Belarusian milking equipment to Stavropol Territory,” the head of the President Administration informed.

Access to clean water is a major social priority for Stavropol Territory. “Public response to projects related to water supply, water intake, and wastewater disposal has been very positive. Belarus has a major private contractor that has already executed several projects in Russia, but is not yet operating in Stavropol Territory. Three pilot projects have been identified so far, and today the governor provided guidance on several additional sites where our expertise will be implemented on a turnkey basis: from design to the handover of completed facilities,” Dmitry Krutoi noted.
