Belarus, Russia’s Irkutsk Oblast plan joint tour package for Chinese travelers

MINSK, 30 September (BelTA) – Russia’s Irkutsk and Belarus plan to develop a joint tourism product for Chinese travelers, Irkutsk Oblast Vice Governor Vladimir Chitorkin said following the 10th meeting of the working group on cooperation between Belarus and Russia’s Irkutsk Oblast, held on the sidelines of the INNOPROM. Belarus international industrial expo, BelTA has learned.

“The tourism potential of both Irkutsk Oblast and Belarus is multifaceted. There is enough work for decades to come,” Vladimir Chitorkin said, clarifying that this is a new area in the bilateral agenda. “We are using what has already been implemented and seeking new paths.”
Possible options for interaction were discussed at the meeting.

“Our current approach involves creating packages specifically for Chinese tourists, who visit Irkutsk in droves. We will combine our global brand Baikal with the Great Patriotic War heritage theme of Brest Oblast in a single tourist product,” Vladimir Chitorkin added.

Youth tourism with a patriotic focus and student exchanges are also being considered. “This is all very important. A visit to the Brest Fortress profoundly changes children. And adults are no exception. It leaves none of us unchanged,” Vladimir Chitorkin said.
The second new are is personnel training. “We have introduced a new term: instead of ‘career guidance’ it would be ‘career navigation’, targeting talented 5th-6th graders for early professional orientation. We will develop this,” the vice governor said.

The working group meeting lasted about three hours and covered a significant range of topics.
“We see great growth potential and discussed how we will achieve it. Primarily, this involves supplies of a wide range of products, from the aviation industry to high technology. We are ready to accept machinery, tools, and equipment from the Belarusian side for our agriculture as well. We have exchanged contacts,” Vladimir Chitorkin noted.

The next meeting of the working group is planned to be held in Irkutsk.
