Belarus, Oman set up cooperation and investment committee

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) – Belarus and Oman signed an intergovernmental agreement on 19 May to establish a joint committee on cooperation and investment, BelTA has learned.

The document was inked by Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov and President of the Oman Investment Authority Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi. They became co-chairs of the joint committee.
Attending the signing ceremony was also Crown Prince - Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Sultanate of Oman Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik al-Said. It was his first visit to Belarus. The Crown Prince coordinates Belarus-Oman cooperation.

The document was signed after  Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko met with Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham bin Tarik al-Said in the Palace of Independence. The Belarusian head of state emphasized that the priority is given to trade and economic cooperation. Belarus is interested in using Oman's port infrastructure to jointly promote trade with other countries, including Africa.

“There are many things in Belarus that are of interest to the Omani side today. We are also interested in you in many ways. This includes holiday trips for our people, agriculture, supply of products. And, most importantly, your ports that we would like to use to operate in the region,” the Belarusian leader said.

The interaction between the two countries intensified after the visit of Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko to Oman in December 2024. Back then, the government delegation signed cooperation documents and finalized cooperation roadmaps for various economic sectors.

In addition to the high-level meetings, there were many consultations and negotiations at the ministerial level involving the foreign minister, the industry and trade minister, and the agriculture and food minister. The parties worked out mechanisms for building up cooperation and implementing joint projects, and also agreed on establishing an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

Earlier, Maksim Ryzhenkov noted that Belarus wanted to create a hub in Oman to deliver its products to the local market and other countries of the region, given Oman’s vast contacts and thousand-year experience of working in Africa, India and other countries.
