Belarus mulls over supplies of firefighting equipment, medicines, medical equipment to Nicaragua

MINSK, 26 May (BelTA) - Belarus is mulling over supplies of firefighting equipment, medicines and medical equipment to Nicaragua, Belarusian First Deputy Chairman of the Board of the National Bank Aleksandr Yegorov said on air of the First News TV channel, BelTA informs.

According to him, the meetings and negotiations that took place during the visit of the Belarusian delegation to Nicaragua reaffirmed the commitment to furthering relations between the two countries. "The number of agreements, products supplied, potential partners on both sides is growing. The main thing is that the cooperation is based on equal footing. This is very important; it helps to develop trade relations. We have a concrete result in the form of signed agreements, contracts, credit agreements worth more than $30 million," Aleksandr Yegorov said.

The lineup of Belarusian machinery on the market of Nicaragua is getting wider. "If we talk about tractors, they do well in the sea climate. Bobruiskagromash offers mounted and trailed machinery, tractor implements. It is important not only to have a tractor, but also implements to it, which significantly increases labor productivity in agriculture. This is what Nicaragua really needs at the moment. As for MAZ, its traditional export item to Nicaragua is trucks. We also presented firefighting equipment on MAZ chassis to our partners. Since we organize service maintenance for MAZ trucks there, it will be much easier to service firefighting equipment as well. The manufacturer's warranty is also very important, which is tens of years. In addition, when a chassis fails, the firefighting platform and superstructure can be moved to another chassis, and it will continue to function absolutely painlessly. These are exactly the competitive advantages that the Nicaraguan side is interested in. I think that we are in for another breakthrough in this area of cooperation," he said.

According to him, the primary task is to supply Belarusian machinery so that it could prove its worth and sustainability on the Nicaraguan soil. “And then, when local residents and businesses make sure of the efficiency of this equipment, it will be much easier to find partners to launch assembly production facilities and supply these machines to all the countries of the region,” Aleksandr Yegorov added.
According to him, the parties have reached concrete agreements that will enable to supply Belarusian medicines even without full certification to the Nicaraguan market. "Our medicines are much cheaper than drugs from other countries, being on par in terms of efficiency. Colleagues from Nicaragua are interested in medical equipment, so we believe we will also supply it along with medicines," Aleksandr Yegorov said.

There are certain issues related to logistics, but assorted cargoes and direct deliveries are being worked out at the government level. "These issues will be resolved. Indeed, the delivery time might take from 40 to 60 days, but we do not see any significant risks," Aleksandr Yegorov said.

Nicaragua is also interested in Belarusian technologies. "The task that we are currently working on is to help our partners, with the use of our knowledge and technologies, to start the manufacture of high value-added dairy products to substitute imports and make deliveries from Nicaragua to other Central American countries. Genetic potato material is also an important topic for Nicaragua. Our Academy of Sciences has a large number of different types of potatoes, some of which will be effectively cultivated on Nicaraguan soil," he noted.

"Belarus will also become an important partner for Nicaragua in promoting its interests in the EAEU market. Minsk is gearing up to host the Eurasian Economic Forum in June. We expect that the visit of a Nicaraguan delegation and the negotiations will be a step towards reaching an agreement between Nicaragua and the EAEU," Aleksandr Yegorov added.
