MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) – Belarus' merchandise export to Ukraine totaled $2.2 billion in January-September of this year, Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BelCCI) Vladimir Ulakhovich told the media ahead of a meeting of the Belarusian-Ukrainian Business Cooperation Advisory Council, BelTA has learned.
“Ukraine is the second largest trading and economic partner of Belarus. Last year, the trade was not a record high, but still it came at $5.8 billion. For example, Belarus' trade with China totaled $4.6 billion. This year, in January-September, the trade shrank due to objective circumstances, but we still netted $2.2 billion in export, and this is a considerable export portfolio. Therefore, our task is to keep the momentum and, even in difficult conditions of the pandemic, to keep looking for new projects, commercial proposals, to respond to the difficulties and answer questions of enterprises,” Vladimir Ulakhovich noted.
More than 200 agreements have been signed between Belarus and Ukraine, which are mostly about economic and industrial cooperation. "Many Belarusian companies have long-term ties with partners in Ukraine. We have nine assembly plants in Ukraine, more than 100 entities of the supply chain. We supply a very wide range of products to Ukraine: petroleum products, fertilizers, tractors, buses, household chemicals, tires, food and woodworking products," he added.
Vladimir Ulakhovich believes that today's meeting of the Belarusian-Ukrainian Advisory Council is a positive signal for business that the countries remain committed to maintaining trade and economic ties, developing cooperation and jointly overcoming the difficulties associated with the pandemic.-
