MINSK, 3 July (BelTA) – The 2024 harvest in Belarus is expected to be about 15% bigger compared to last year, Head of the Plant Production Directorate of the Agriculture and Food Ministry Nikolai Leshik told BelTA.

The agricultural sector is facing ambitious targets this year. “Every effort is being made to fulfill grain production plans. The previous winter was mild. This year winter plants, grains and rapeseed are more robust than in the previous periods. This alone guarantees an increase in grain harvests, since winter crops inherently have better yields,” Nikolai Leshik remarked.

According to him, all the farming works were done almost on time. “The weather in May was also more favorable compared with the previous year. There was not such a long dry period as before. At certain points there was even excess moisture, so for now the harvest is predicted to increase by about 15% over last year. Taking into account the expansion of plantations of corn for grain, we hope that all grain harvest goals will be achieved,” Nikolai Leshik added.
