Belarus’ grain harvest 54% complete

MINSK, 11 August (BelTA) - Belarus has harvested 54% of areas planted to grain crops (maize, buckwheat and millet not taken into account), which makes up 1,072,000 hectares, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

As of 11 August, some 5,321,000 tonnes of grain, including rapeseed, were cropped in Belarus. 

The regional breakdown is the following: Brest Oblast harvested 1.36 million tonnes, Minsk Oblast 1.171 million tonnes, Grodno Oblast 1.111 million tonnes, Gomel Oblast 631,000 tonnes, Mogilev Oblast 619,000 tonnes, and Vitebsk Oblast 429,000 tonnes. 

Some 176,000 tonnes of food grain have been delivered under the state procurement program, representing 25% of the target, along with 210,000 tonnes of rapeseed oilseeds, fulfilling over 87% of the plan.

Flax has been pulled from 29,000 hectares, accounting for 60% of the planned area. 

Second-cut grasses have been mowed on 895,000 hectares, 85% of the target. 

Some 326,000 tonnes of hay (45% of the plan) and 11.516 million tonnes of haylage (83% of the plan) have been prepared so far, including 364,000 tonnes stored in polymer packaging. 

Forage production has reached 3.497 million tonnes (35% of target).
