Belarus’ FM stresses need to expand logistics network

MINSK, 31 July (BelTA) – Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Maksim Ryzhenkov emphasized the need to develop comprehensive solutions for expanding the country’s logistics capabilities as he spoke during a meeting between the Belarusian president and heads of diplomatic missions and consular offices in Minsk on 31 July, BelTA learned.

“Despite the president's directive to sell products on more distant terms, most trade still occurs ‘at the factory gate’. We are still handing foreign counterparts the profits from insurance and transportation of our goods,” Maksim Ryzhenkov said, addressing shortcomings in the sales system.

The minister reported on a government-mandated pilot project consolidating goods for containerized shipments to Egypt, Vietnam, India, South Korea, UAE, and South Africa. “However, foreign competitors still manage to offer better terms overall,” the minister said, citing container shipping costs to China as an example.

“We must therefore continue developing integrated solutions to widen our logistics capabilities, reduce costs, and fully engage Belarusian exporters and carriers,” Maksim Ryzhenkov concluded.
