Belarus’ energy sector hailed as one of world’s cleanest, most efficient

MINSK, 11 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian energy sector is one of the most efficient and cleanest in the world today, Deputy Energy Minister Olga Prudnikova told a press conference on the sustainable development of the energy sector, ecology and energy efficiency on 11 October, BelTA has learned.

“We make a significant contribution to climate protection through the commissioning of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, which occupies more than 40% of the total electricity production in the country’s energy system,” the deputy minister said. “We are also meeting the energy security indicators, which proves the purity of our electricity. The matter pertains to the efforts to increase the share of renewable and local energy sources”.

On 15-18 October Minsk will host the 28th Belarusian Energy and Environmental Forum, one of the largest thematic forums in the CIS. Its goal is to demonstrate the latest achievements of science, engineering and technologies in energy, industry, ecology, energy saving, automation, electronics, oil refining, environmental protection and use of renewable energy sources.

According to Olga Prudnikova, the forum will feature a wage range of relevant organizations, which are part of Belenergo and Beltopgaz, presenting various technologies in the production and transmission of electric and thermal energy. A large block of exhibits will highlight the digitalization of the energy system. A number of international organizations have confirmed their participation in the forum.

“The ongoing year is of great significance for our country: we are celebrating the 80th anniversary of Belarus' liberation from the Nazis, the 30th anniversary of the institute of presidency, and hosting events dedicated to the Year of Quality. Taking into account all these large-scale events, we are doing utmost to develop the program and expositions to make them most informative both for the participants and visitors,” Deputy Energy Minister Olga Prudnikova stressed.

The main goal of the energy sector development as part of the national strategy for sustainable social and economic development of Belarus is to increase the efficiency of energy production, transmission, distribution and consumption, to meet the needs of the economy and population in energy carriers based on their availability and efficient use while reducing the burden on the environment.
