Bank of stem cells, vascular allografts to be created in Minsk

MINSK, 8 August (BelTA) – A bank of stem cells, valve allografts and vascular allografts will be created at the Minsk National Research Center for Surgery, Transplantation and Hematology, the press service of the State Committee on Science and Technology told BelTA commenting on Decree No. 301 “On innovative projects”.

The document approves amendments and addenda to Belarus' innovative development program for the period of 2016-2020. The decree amends the list of projects that are critical for the country's innovative development. The list features 21 new projects. “They include a biobanking project to be run by the Minsk National Research Center for Surgery, Transplantation and Hematology. The project provides for the creation of Belarus' first repository of stem cells, valve allografts and vascular allografts. In addition, the Medplast company will launch the production of Belarus' first vacutainers using cutting-edge technology. Another two projects are designed to enhance national security, defense capacity, and emergency response,” the press service informed.

Five projects of the program will be implemented in the agricultural industry. The y will facilitate the development of new products, assimilation of advanced technology and cultivation of highly productive animal breeds. For example, the Krasny Pishchevik company will launch new types of confectionery products.

Another 12 projects will cover the manufacturing industry and construction sector. These projects provide for development of high-tech and intellectual systems, adoption of additive manufacturing techniques and use of composite materials.

These projects are aimed at promoting import-substitution, boosting the export of domestic tech products, and creating new jobs, the press service added.
